Lagniappe: A Little Somethin' Extra

Lindsay Morton • February 20, 2023

Lagniappe is a word that has its origins in the Louisiana Creole language. The word is derived from the Spanish phrase "la ñapa," which means "something extra" or "a bonus." When Spanish merchants would sell their goods in Louisiana, they would often include a little extra item as a thank you to their customers. Over time, this practice of giving a little something extra became known as "lagniappe" in Louisiana, and it became an integral part of the local culture. Today, the word has become synonymous with the concept of generosity and hospitality in the southern United States, and it is often used to describe the practice of going the extra mile for someone.

The meaning of lagniappe extends beyond just giving a little something extra, however. It's also about building strong relationships and showing appreciation for others. Lagniappe is often seen as a way to express gratitude and build goodwill with others, whether it's through small acts of kindness or more significant gestures. In Louisiana, the tradition of lagniappe is deeply ingrained in the culture, and it's not uncommon for locals to offer a little something extra to their neighbors, friends, or customers as a way of showing their appreciation. Ultimately, the practice of lagniappe is about building community, fostering connections, and spreading joy and generosity wherever you go.

As a New Orleans-based company, we take lagniappe to heart and strive to go the extra mile for our clients. We understand that in this fast-paced business world, it's not just about delivering quality products and services, but it's also about creating a memorable experience for our clients. We believe that our commitment to delivering something extra is what sets us apart from our competitors.
